What a really fun song and totally awesome level of teamwork by both Adam and I on this production! This one originally started off with just a basic chorus idea; the original words of the chorus, “You should never see my cry”. The trick was, as it sometimes always is, was coming up with the rest of the story! What does that chorus mean? Why did it come to mind?
Some say, that every song is already written… it’s just up to us to channel it through ourselves and bring it to life.
This song went through 2 major revisions before we ended up with the final version you hear today. Come over to our Patreon page to hear the original demo from Wes, and also the first major revision by Adam! It basically went from a slow and mellow song to a much heavier track with a metal swing beat. And the second revision to the lyrics so it would make a little more sense… “But I still don’t know what it’s about!” you say. Never fear, the explanation is here!
Ok, here’s a hint, it has to do with living with and fighting domestic violence and is inspired by a real life event I watched on a TV show about a year ago. I can’t quite remember the series but it was something like “Cold Case Files” or “Forensic Files”. In the story a woman meets her fairy tale prince charming. He’s the perfect guy. They date, they fall in love shortly thereafter they get married and that’s when the real sinister fun begins.
He becomes just an angry individual, controlling and yelling. They have a child and it only gets worse. Hitting… never the child, only her but with such anger each time that the beatings get worse and worse.
She stays because she truly believes it’s her fault. She pisses him off because of the way she looks, the clothes she wears, forgets to take out the trash or do the laundry. Yes, she is being punished for her stupidity and forgetfulness.
She thinks to herself, “If I had only ironed his work suit the way he should me, I would not have this black eye right now.” She still believes in fairytales… “It’ll get better…” she says to herself. “He’s just really stressed out at work.” When she does finally attempt to leave, he threatens to kill her family.
Now trapped, she begins to lose hope and becomes so seriously depressed that her family is now questioning it. Everything just really begins to go downhill from here.
There is no real happy ending to this story other than knowing that justice was crudely and coldly served by the woman who was tired of dealing with him and had enough of his shit!
Surprise ending isn’t it? I personally thought she was going to commit suicide… this one ended up serving a bit of well-deserved “street justice”. Well, that’s what you get when you back someone into a corner.
Hope you enjoy the song!

LYRICS:
Tell me, was it worth the cause
Show me, was it worth the loss
Lie to me, I fear the monster inside you
Torturing everything I hold true
As you ride the wings of fairytales crushing my dreams
I have seen through these eyes, it’s time to wish you’d never been
You will curse me till I die
I can never say goodbye
So cold this will never be over
Your soul grows icy and colder
Do I deserve to be your obsessive reality
The strings of hope wearing thin this is the bitter end
As you ride the wings of fairytales crushing my dreams
I have seen through these eyes, it’s time to wish you’d never been
You will curse me till I die
I can never say goodbye
Yet you still believe in fairytales
As you ride the wings of fairytales crushing my dreams
I have seen through these eyes, it’s time to wish you’d never been
You will curse me till I die
I can never say goodbye
