about

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
Damned and broken is a song we wrote to attempt to reach out to others that may have mental illness or physical disability that prevents them from “living” life and tell them that you’re not alone… you CAN rise above whatever it is and still live your life and find happiness. This song is a message of encouragement, a message of hope, and a wish that we can all find a way to find happiness in life, no matter what our challenges may be.

The verses deal with how depression and anxiety affect those afflicted and the stigma that goes along with it, giving the audience a vantage point into how our own minds perceive our illness. The bridge and chorus are a positive spin to show that those who suffer the same or any other debilitating illness are not hopeless and worthless, that we are humans and want to live normal lives. Often times needing the human touch, of those we love and from those that care about us. We need those people to help set us free from our mind-trap. During the last chorus of the song, those that love us, some of our amazing supportive network that were able to send something in, really helped bring the song to a close with all their positive messages of hope. The pain that they’ve experienced in their own lives, and how they overcome. Take time to really read the messages… pause the video if need be… very touching and heartfelt, the care and thought that were put in them simply amazes us! We are so proud to have them in our music video, and it meant so much for them to come help us out! THANK YOU!!

SPECIAL THANKS:
We reached out to our supportive network and requested a short video or a photo of themselves telling us what their positive message is in life that helps them get through the hard times. We received a great response from this and greatly appreciate the involvement from our community! The artwork for the album was also created by one of our top supporters… we want to offer you a special “thank you”, (in no particular order of course) and we hope that you realize just how important you are in our lives! We couldn’t have done this without you.

THANK YOU------ Rusty “Beak”, Misti “Morbicity”, Shawn N., Ned D., Tracy H., Karen P., and Rosemarie F. “80’smusicgirl”,

Damned and Broken
©2016 – Mourning Stone

Sadness overtaking me
It's sneaking up to pull me under
Then I'm left in misery
I hate myself for not fighting harder
Skin and bone will mend the same
But it's what's inside
That's taking longer
Skin and bone will mend the same
And I'm not to blame
Can't get much stronger

Not wrong
Not gone
Not everything left is hopeless
So strong
(For) So long
Not everything left is hopeless
In the lives of the damned and broken

Anxiety loves to attack
As it covers up, truth and reason
And all I'm left is worthlessness
Overcome with guilt and isolation
Skin and bone outside remain
But we’re not insane
And we’ll keep on fighting
Skin and bone will mend the same
Shouldn’t live in shame
Or end up dying

Not wrong
Not gone
Not everything left is hopeless
So strong
(For) So long
Not everything left is hopeless
In the lives of the damned and broken

Take time to look and you will find
More to us than state of mind
Take a look and you will see
There’s more than pain and misery
Truth inside we rarely show
Hang around now please don’t go
So much more that we can be
Take a look and you will see

Not wrong
Not gone
Not everything left is hopeless
So strong
(For) So long
Not everything left is hopeless
In the lives of the damned and broken

Not wrong
Not gone
Not everything left is hopeless
So strong
(For) So long
Not everything left is hopeless
In the lives of the damned and broken
The lives of the damned and broken
Like Me
